Jorge’s journey into barefoot shoes

Meet Jorge, a data engineer who started wearing barefoot shoes about a year and a half ago. Like many people, he didn’t initially set out to change his footwear habits, but after stumbling upon the concept online, he got curious. What started as a simple experiment quickly became a part of his everyday life.

A New Way of Thinking About Shoes

Jorge first heard about barefoot shoes through YouTube, where he discovered a subculture of people who approached movement and lifestyle differently.

“They focused on accommodating the natural way the body works. I found it very interesting and wanted to try it.”

Curious to learn more, he searched for barefoot shoes and discovered that there was a shop in Copenhagen. Without overthinking it, he decided to check it out.

First Impressions: A Perfect Fit

Jorge arrived at Mærkbare with low expectations. He wasn’t sure what to expect but decided to try a pair anyway.

“I put on the shoes, and they were already perfect. Just trying them out, compared to my previous experience, where I always struggled with not having the right fit in the back. Maybe some friction—it was already very comfortable.”

Unlike his previous shoes, which often caused discomfort, the barefoot shoes felt right from the start. That same day, he bought his first pair. It became his go-to footwear for both the office and evenings out.

Expanding the Collection

A month later, something changed—Jorge realized he didn’t want to wear anything else.

“I got my sports pair. I didn’t really need them, but I couldn’t go back.”

Soon after, he added a pair of winter boots to his collection. Now, he wears barefoot shoes exclusively.

“So now, I only wear Vivo [Vivobarefoot] shoes, and I love it.”

A Personal Experience

For Jorge, barefoot shoes weren’t a radical shift or a solution to any major problem—just a natural step towards greater comfort. He didn’t set out to replace all his shoes, but once he experienced the difference, he made the choice that felt best for him.

At Mærkbare, we love hearing stories like Jorge’s. Barefoot shoes aren’t a one-size-fits-all solution, but they offer a different approach to footwear—one that some people find works better for them.

Curious to try barefoot shoes for yourself? The best way to find out if they’re for you is to put on a pair and see how they feel.
